Why are you writing about personal finance?

In the last decade or so I’ve realized I was lucky enough to grow up in business oriented family, with lots of accountants around me. My dad, elder brother, maternal uncle are all CPAs, even both my paternal and maternal Grandfathers were tax consultants. So finance was always in the family and alongside computers and software engineering, personal finance always came very naturally to me.

After meeting my wife and in the last few years talking to friends and even co-workers I started to realize that not everyone finds it as easy to think about their personal financial situations. In fact for a lot of people it is extremely daunting and intimidating and I’ve seen people make a lot of mistakes with the simple things that cost them a lot in the long run.

I’d love to be able to help make a difference and help create frameworks or structures that allow people to think about money in a much more rational and logical way rather than thinking about it emotionally and finding it daunting to talk about money with their significant others, family or friends.

I know this is easier said than done especially with finances since it has such an emotional impact on people, but I worked with a former colleague and his wife recently to help them and that experience has just inspired me to do more of that.
